Does my wedding photographer need to know the venue in Northamptonshire?
One concern of many newly engaged couples is whether or not the photographer is familiar with the venue. This is something to consider when you’re at the interview stage of your wedding photographer search.
Personally, I would say it’s not a deal breaker if your photographer hasn’t worked at your venue before, to counter any nervousness around best places for pictures, they can simply arrive earlier than needed on the wedding day.
Why don’t I think it’s a concern?
- Firstly, the weather. Depending on the time of year, the layout, what’s in bloom, the wind direction etc. all these elements could quite easily have changed dramatically from the point you book your wedding photographer through to the actual wedding day. Your best laid plans will probably have to be adjusted on the day anyway, so a pre visit offers no real benefit.
- Secondly, creativity. If your photographer knows the venue inside out, are they just recycling the same locations over and again? Maybe you want fresh eyes on a venue to create something truly unique.
- Thirdly, only the portraits are really affected. The preparation rooms, the ceremony, the reception, the speeches and the dancing. Each of these elements are out of our control and you simply have to react to what’s in front of you on the day.
